Although the UNO 500 Championships are temporarily suspended, the power of UNO still remains strong.
Whilst reading in a rest area happily minding my own business and pondering over the scale of the next few weeks, an unexpected knock on my window had me travel on another journey; confused, panic, fear, calm, intrigue all swept over me in a second. It’s not normal for a knock on the window. Murderers don’t knock and most people call out.
It was in fact my neighbours for the evening, Ria and John, an Australian couple travelling with their three kids in a modified bus around the country to find a suitable place for them to set up home.
They’d come across a pack of UNO cards deep in their luggage but had somehow forgotten to pack their instructions and wondered whether I could show them. They invited me over for a beer and a chat whilst the intricacies of UNO were explained to them.
The first hand was a whitewash but they soon got the hang of it :)
The moral of this story is always carry a game, preferably one that is easy to explain, and if possible one that is universally known.
