Home from home

After a brief stop with Uncle Joe for a night in Maroubra (a suburb of Sydney) to celebrate his birthday I then hopped on the train the next morning for the final leg of my journey which would take me to Berry where Toni was ready for my arrival.

I managed to navigate my way from Maroubra on the bus to Central Station, purchase my ticket, and find the right paltform with only the slightest amount of flapping! My breakfast for that morning consisted of leftover carrot cake from the night before (yum!) as we well as a 'Hungry Jacks' Bacon and egg muffin meal. I was all set for the 2.5 hour journey. Uncle Joe had told me to sit in the upper carriage on the left hand side - yes these trains were double deckers! An odd concept for an English person but very common here in New South Wales as I would come to learn.

The jounney was spectacular - it took me through forests and hills and the bit that I had been waiting for... along the coast so that I had the perfect seaview on the last leg of the jounrney. Where else on earth would you see somehting like that? The day was grey and so the coastline did remind me slightly to the train jounrey to Auntie Jacque's in Wales. Perahps if it had been sunny it would have felt different.
I was slightly nervous as I wasn't sure where I was meant to change but after a chat to a helpful man i was put straight and managed to rleax for the rest of the journey. At the end of it I was greeted by Toni and Honey (the dog!).

We proceeded to head straigtht for the 'Berry Tea Shop' for tea and cakes! Much much needed after the train journey and made me feel at ease straight away. My first opinion of Berry was a quaint English village right in the heart of Australia. Lots of boutiquey shops to keep me happy! Nice!

My two weeks here were occupied with eating lots of fudge, crackers and cheese - not just any cheese though. This was triple cream brie (very nice I can assure you) washed down with sparkling wine. I was going to enjoy my time here. I pottered around Berry and spent the other half of my time serahcing for jobs in Sydney as I would soon leave this haven and head for the big city.
Being in Berry gave me the chance to relax, spend time with Toni, Joe and Sam and als see what the area had to offer. and boy wad there a lot to see. Down the road is Kangaroo Valley where you can while away the hours eating fudge, drinking wine and sitting in coffee shops - just up my street.

Jervis Bay gave me the chance to see the water and the surrounding scenery at its best - on a blue sky day with the sun shining.

On saturdays I enjoyed a walk along Seven Mile Beach with Ucle Joe and Honey at low tide.

On one day trip we visited a buddhist temple not far away from Berry which was a lovely afternoon and very calming.

At the end of my stay there I felt like Berry was my home away from home, and I would dearly miss Toni, Joe, Sam, Cino the cat , Miss Twinkles the cat , Honey and Buster but Sydney beckoned me.....
