Probably the most important time of being away, the ‘declared’ rest day.
The declaration usually comes as a result of a long drive, busy few days, tiredness, snapping and are treated with pure delight!
After the Bungle Bungles and the bumping around in the car, the Mary Pool Rest Area was chosen for a ‘rest day’.
Rest areas aren’t usually the location of choice due to their proximity to the road, dustiness and lack of facilities however Mary Pool, as described by www.gray-nomad.com, pretty much sums up why it was a good choice.
Once up, a leisurely muesli breakfast and cuppa were taken in the chairs and the books and journals came out. Rest days give plenty of time for this as usually after a long day, focussing on anything can be quite a challenge especially if there are others around for a chat. Our neighbours Rob and Helen had invited us over for dinner by ‘their’ fire the night before and had also decided on a rest day. Passing them play Scrabble and reading, it seemed as those the declared ‘rest day’ schedule was being taken up by us all.
Cows wandered through the camp, a common occurence in rest area, a Tawny Frogmouth bird was spotted in the trees, a stray croc had been spotted in the drying river bed and countless birds flew around the site. The sun filtered through the trees all day forcing us to continuously move around but all in all a great day for relaxing and definitely needed.
Butter Chicken and rice, a nice fire and watching the stars including identifying the Southern Cross (the series of stars on the Australian Flag) and the Milky Way.
